About Me
I'm Mackenzie Fluharty, and this is my second year teaching at Sioux Valley. I've had an interesting career up to this point, including working in the Brookings School District for three years as an English Language Learning teaching assistant, while also working for HyVee, WeatherStar, and Larson's manufacturing. I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, but my whole family is here in South Dakota. I graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor's of Arts for Secondary English Education in 2015. I did my student teaching at Ramstein Airbase in Ramstein, Germany. I also have a minor in Educational Psychology.
I have dog that lives with my mom in Sioux Falls, and a new kitten. I have many, many pictures of both, but the ones I've chosen below are their best. I have a younger brother, and two best friends who are all still in Indiana.
I won't say I've always wanted to be a teacher, but I have always wanted to help people, and I've always loved English. It took most of my high school career to realize what I wanted to do, and once I did, I realized that this is what I'm meant to be doing. I can't wait to teach and learn with you!
The end of my first year teaching was not how I had envisioned, as I'm sure many of you felt as well. I'm excited to see you all again, but no matter what happens, I know we'll work together to get the most out of this school year.
